Mental health first aid

One of the things that the Current Living in Kirklees (CLiK) survey tells us is that mental health conditions are incredibly common.

Almost one in three people (31%) in Kirklees has a mental health condition, like anxiety or depression. Mental health conditions, unlike many other types of illness, are more common in younger people than older people.

Kirklees Council is using CLiK data to help support funding applications to District Committees for Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA).

MHFA allows Community Champions to recognise and respond appropriately to signs of mental illness in the people they come into contact with.  This training is currently being provided in Dewsbury and Mirfield and will hopefully be extended to other areas in Kirklees very soon.
